Best Inventory Software for a scattered network

I have looked at SysAid, beIT Smart and Spiceworks so far. They might work - has anyone tried them? The workstations and servers I need to keep track of are on small networks without WAN links; should I be looking at a web-based solution? Free would be nice but I am willing to pay, especially if there is some value to my clients.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Definately a vote for Spiceworks.

Spiceworks is mainly an agent-less sysetm but for remote locations you can setup remote collectors on one machine which will report back to your main installation.

Besides the remote collection, Spiceworks offers you so much more to help your IT department: inventory, monitoring, alerts, helpdesk, network map, etc.  And it's all free!  Can't beat that!

I'll make it a trifecta and also recommend SpiceWorks.  I agree with benhar, the forums are the real reason to go with the software.  The community is very responsive and patient.
