ASP Data Driven Dynamic Calendar

I need to create a dynamic calendar using event data from an Access database.  For all our pages we are using ASP with vbscript.  If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.  The more customizable via stylesheets the better.

Thank you in advance.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Your question is too vague and does not have enough points to get responses. Access is not a viable datasource for a public facing web site, is this for internal use only?

Despite the fact that Access is not a viable data source, that is what we have been using for years to drive our site.  I inherited it this way.  Changing it has been discussed many times but the problem is that there are too many other variables (a ticketing system tie-in) to change it without major reconstructive surgery.  And believe it or not, we are a major NY arts organization.

You can see our event listings here:

http://jalc.org/concerts/c_calendar09.asp

We need to be able to create a calendar that at the very least we can click on a date and have it return a listing of any/all shows on that date.

Thanks for your input.

Big Business Goals? Which KPIs Will Help You

The most successful MSPs rely on metrics – known as key performance indicators (KPIs) – for making informed decisions that help their businesses thrive, rather than just survive. This eBook provides an overview of the most important KPIs used by top MSPs.

Oddly enough, our parent organization has one on their site.  You can see it here:

http://www.lincolncenter.org/search_results.asp

Unfortunately, going through them and the person that did this isnot really be possible and complicated.  Something as simple as being able to click the date and see all performances associated with that date would be great.

I just looked at the Met and that's sort of what we are looking to do.

Thanks for taking the time to discuss.

I have noticed that WE IT have a tendency to try and solve the problem before we know the question.
  • Define the goal
  • Break it down into deliverable objects
  • Determine the use cases for the objects
    • Required
    • Desired
    • Inspired
  • Build the Required with an effort on the Desired and an eye on the Inspired.
  • Front load the effort to take the load off at the end.
What do you really want.
In the moments I took to write this i begin to see a larger calendar with Face + name + venue tags.
Hover over and get XHTML riseup object with all the details.
Top filter by DateRange, EventType (Concert,Speaker), AudienceType (Public, Alumni, Invitation)

Still need some help?

jalcadminAuthor Commented:
We do still need help with this actually.  We are most likely moving to Joomla because our organization desperately needs a CMS.  Unfortunately, that's a longer term project than the site redesign we are undertaking at the moment.  So long story short, we will probably still be looking for a way to do this in classic ASP.

BanthorCommented:
Well I would say that it is not classic ASP but ASP 3.0  and anything you can do in Joomla or any opensource script language, I can do better in ASP. ASP.NET is a completly different model.

Are you a Not For Profit organization? Maybe we can work something out.
