When I type in the command "net start dhcpserver" on my Windows Server 2003 Small Business server, I receive the error message mentioned in the body

When I type in the command "net start dhcpserver" on my Windows Server 2003 Small Business server, I receive the error message:

"The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has n
o enabled devices associated with it."

I am also unable to restart the DHCP service using Windows services.

What can I do to resolve this problem so that I can start the DHCP service on my Windows Server 2003 Small Business server?

What kind of router do you have?  Is DHCP turned on, on the router
can workstations ping the server by name and IP?
IT GuyNetwork EngineerAuthor Commented:
I get these codes in event viewer: 1008, 1018, 1014, 1004.

Also, the company uses a Netopia router.

However, even after I have disabled the DHCP function on the Netopia router, I am still unable to start the DHCP service.

Furhtermore, I have uninstalled and then reinstalled the DHCP component in the Windows Add/Remove programs applet and have rebooted the server several times and I am still unable to start DHCP.

What can I do to fix this problem?

Do you have any anti-virus software running on the server?
IT GuyNetwork EngineerAuthor Commented:
Yes, the server is running Symantec End Point Protection v. 11.

I have excluded the C:\WINDOWS\System32\dhcp folder from being scanned and have even disabled the antivirus software altogether, but am still unable to start the DHCP server service.
flyingskyCommented:
You sure no other DHCP server running on the network? (could be router, firewall, another dhcp server, etc..)
flyingskyCommented:
One thing you can try is, unplug the SBS server from network then try starting DHCP server service. If it starts and keeps running, then you have another DHCP server on the network.

It would also be helpful to run the following at a command prompt on the server
ipconfig /all

Your SBS Server is running on a Wireless network connection?
IT GuyNetwork EngineerAuthor Commented:
Yes.
Cris HannaSr IT Support EngineerCommented:
Well that's simply not going to work!   And Your Wireless adapter is getting a DHCP address, not a static Address assigned  "DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes"

Is this a new install??   Did you recently switch from a wired connection to a wireless?
IT GuyNetwork EngineerAuthor Commented:
Sorry, I posted the ipconfig/all results from my laptop instead of from within the SBS 2003 server (running through remote desktop).
Cris HannaSr IT Support EngineerCommented:
ok...so can we see the one from the SBS  SERVER?
IT GuyNetwork EngineerAuthor Commented:
Everyone,

Sorry for the delay.

I'm in the process right now of trying to reestablish a remote connection to the server at this customer's sight so that I can post the results of the ipconfig/all command.

It will probably take me a couple more days until I am able to do this. As soon as I regain remote connectivity, I will post the results of this ipconfig/all command.
IT GuyNetwork EngineerAuthor Commented:
I will be closing this question since I won't be able to reconnect to this server to provide the results of the ipconfig/all command.

However, all of the suggestions and comments that were given have increased my knowledge by quite a bit. If I ever encounter this same sort of issue again, I have a better overall understanding of what to do to troubleshoot this issue.
