POTS lines for Cisco VOIP

I have a regular POTS line at my House and I also have a Cisco 2611XM router. What software and or hardware do I need to get for the Cisco router to have VOIP. I would like to connect the router to the POTS line and have VOIP internal on my network. Just wanting this for a hobby and eventually a Cisco certification.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yes the card is good but you will need a voice IOS as ikalmar suggested,

these are named

IP VOICE

something like c2600-ipvoice-mz.123-26.bin

will run on your router, for the latest versions you will need to upgrade the DRAM to 196Mb

Where can I buy this VOICE IOS?

GJHopkinsCommented:
You will need a support contract with Cisco to download it.

However I am told that if you search the internet you can find all sorts of things to download.

Hi
the fxo is for incoming calls only and the fxo does not support caller-id
for caller-id you need a vic2 2fxo (universal) or a vic 2fxo-m1 ( there are also an m2 and an m3 depending on location)
if you want to plug a normal house phone you would need a vic 2fxs or you could use a cisco phone like the 7940.
You will also need a dsp module.

Cisco 2621XM (MPC860P) processor (revision 0x100) with 127308K/3764K bytes of memory.

DRAM show in this line 128Mb

Oh and good points by deepdraw, its easy to forget that you need a DSP (tend to take it for granted) and the facilities you get from the PSTN via an FXO will depend on the exact model, where you are in the world and what your service provider offers.
