Exchange 2010 installation

Hi experts I have a 2008 server standard running performing all the duties of authentication file sharing etc, I have another box I just loaded 2008 server standard i want to make this machine the exchange server 2010, i added this server to the domain and proceding to install 2010 exchange and it has some prerequisets. it wants me to install active directory and perform a DCPROMO. does this machine need its own active directory? as it is a member server to the domain Controller I have already setup. I will have a couple more questions on this install after this is resolved so  i am awarded 500 points for the help

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

No it does not, what roles are you trying to install?
Have you installed all the pre-requisites as per: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb691354.aspx

Please note the different scripts for Windows 2008 R2
fessiambreAuthor Commented:

If the script I gave you worked it's Windows 2008 R2.
Run the script from the R2 section for the roles you want.

This computer is already joined to my domain controller
Glen KnightCommented:
Do you have the Domain Controller and the Exchange server both pointing to the same DNS server?

Can you un IPCONFIG /ALL from both the DC and the Exchange Server and post the results.

Also on the server you are trying to install Exchange on can you disable any firewall/antivirus software you may have installed.

Can you PING the domain controller from the Exchange Server?
