Best Network Scanner Audit Reporting Software

Hi Experts,

Can some of you guys recommend are really good network audit software? I know there are loads out there, but I need one that produces really good reports. The best one I've seen so far has been eEYE retina, however it costs £3440. I've looked at GFI but the reports it produces are very weak.

Your comments and suggestions very much welcomed.

Cheers

Thanks for the answer.
Well, I know some inventory software titles, but know only a few security scanners. For example, take a look at Positive Technologies' MaxPatrol. We used their previous security scanner XSpider and it performed quite well. I am not aware about the quality of inventory reports in MaxPatrol because XSpider did not have it.
For the hardware and software inventory reports and tracking inventory changes, I can recommend 10-Strike Network Inventory Explorer. But it does not provide any security tests.

Spiceworks will give you most of this either natively or with plug-ins and/or reports.  It's free and basically awesome!

Are you familiar with eEYE retina scanner? Scans for PCI compliance, vulnerabilities etc ..

eEYE see what you mean.  ( :P  see what I did there?)

Yeah, unfortunately Spiceworks doesn't do that sort of scanning/reporting.  I did check to see if others had recommendations so here are some you could check out: http://community.spiceworks.com/spice_list/show/2

As far as other IT duties, Spiceworks usually fits the bill.

The list is very strange. eEye in my opinion is far better than than a few of those on the list but it comes in at 15.

What do you think?

Honestly I'm not totally familiar with many of those.  The ratings are based upon Spiceworks user opinions and it certainly could be that eEYE is not used by many of them.  Just thought it could be a starting point for your search.

Are you interested in security reports only or do you need some other inventory reports?

treemonster,

I'm primarily interested in security reports, however if it included inventory reports that would be great.
