In place upgrade ESX 3.5 to VSphere 4 - 32 to 64 bit question

Hi,

I am running ESX 3.5 (soft 32 bit) installed on 64 bit server (http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=27216&processor=5130&spec-codes=SLAGC). I want to upgrade to VSphere4 can I do an inplace upgrade?

I know that Vsphere is only 64 bit. Would I be able to run an inplace upgrade in this scenario?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yes, you can do an in-place upgrade. VMware provides some pretty good Upgrade Resources (here's the Guide: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_40_upgrade_guide.pdf), especially videos for upgrading to vSphere. I watched the videos last summer and they were quite helpful and easy to understand. (videos from Upgrade Resource URL here: http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere/upgrade-center/resources.html)

Let me know if you have any further questions.
