XenServer 5.5: MPP Configuration for LUN Multipathing in XenServer 5.5

Hi

I can not get my XEN Server to work with my MD3000i, we have the network setup as mentioned in the document on http://support.citrix.com/article/ctx122824 i have re-done everything on the document to make the below results

i open console:

root@XEN1 ~# echo "install iscsi_tcp /sbin/modprobe -q mppUpper ; /sbin/modprobe -i iscsi_tcp && /sbin/modprobe -q mppVhba" >> /etc/modprobe.d/rdac-mpp
root@XEN1 ~# ln -sf /etc/iscsi/iscsid-mpath.conf /etc/iscsi/iscsid.conf
root@XEN1 ~# ln -sf /etc/iscsi/iscsid-mpath.conf /etc/iscsi/iscsid.conf
root@XEN1 ~# /opt/xensource/sm/mpathHBA enable
root@XEN1 ~# nano /etc/mpp.conf
root@XEN1 ~# mkinitrdMPP --theme=/usr/share/citrix-splash --with=ide-generic --preload=firmware_class --with=qla2xxx --with=lpfc --with=qla4xxx /boot/initrd-2.6-xen-mpp.img `uname -r`
/boot/initrd-2.6-xen-mpp.img already exists. ---- likely because i did this before.
root@XEN1 ~# cd /boot && ln -sf initrd-2.6-xen-mpp.img initrd-2.6-xen.img
root@XEN1 boot#

I then reboot the server,

root@XEN1 ~# mppUtil -a
Hostname = XEN1
Domainname = (none)
Time = GMT 04/15/2010 02:14:35

---------------------------------------------------------------
Info of Array Module's seen by this Host.

no Luns showing.

I i then try:

xe sr-create type=lvmoiscsi name-label=VMDisk-1 device-config:target=192.168.130.102 device-config:targetIQN=iqn.1984-05.com.dell:powervault.6001e4f00031c6f70000000047d8bf7f device-config:SCSIid=1 device-config:multihomed=true shared=true

it comes back with:

Error code: SR_BACKEND_FAILURE_19
Error parameters: , No such device,

if i try this a few times, the machine crashes and reboots.

If i open Xencentre and run the iscsi wizard, i can see Target IQN, 4 show (Iscsi Controller 0 & 1) i find i can only Discover Luns when I use IPs on ISCSI Controller 1 who is the current owner when checked in MDSM.
I see LUN-1 which is the drive I want to add.

If I add it through the wizard multipath does not work  as i enter this on console:

mppUtil -g 0

and it comes back with:

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

What happens when you do a xe-sr-list command before you try to create or plug?  Do you see the LUNs you have presented to your volume?

Wow, never seen the "SHOULD NEVER BE CREATED" option before.  Do you have WRITE permissions to your volumes?

Hi

possibly those volumes showing are the ones this server does not have access to... then again i would assume that they should not show.. the SAN has a few disk groups.

I can create the disk using the storage wizard but not using the command line that I need to use.

Question...

I want to run:

xe sr-create type=lvmoiscsi name-label=VMDisk-1 device-config:target=192.168.130.102 device-config:targetIQN=iqn.1984-05.com.dell:powervault.6001e4f00031c6f70000000047d8bf7f device-config:SCSIid=1 device-config:multihomed=true shared=true

does this create a new disk? the diskgroup is brand new. what if I created it in new storage wizard then detached it, is there a similar command to above to attach rather than create and use multihome etc...
