WSUS crash

My Wsus server crashed beyond repair.  I didn't have a backup either - no worries rebuilt it.  My issue is the following:
I've install the software for WSUS and created my groups and changed my GPO.  I've had the server live for about 2 days now, the machines are listed but they have a status report of "not yet reported"  How do I change this? Or is this normal until the next updates come down???

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Listed it in the wrong criteria, you will get better solutions/results  by experts if you move it to server category.

Here's a few thoughts/questions for you:

Is nothing reporting, even when you run "wuauclt /detectnow" from one of the clients?  After that, does the "C:\windows\windowsupdate.log" look like it's talking to the WSUS server correctly?

If nothing is reporting, how did the new WSUS get the list of computers?

Have you tried deleting one of the systems from the list in WSUS, then calling "wuauclt /detectnow" from that same system to see if it repopulates?

I've also been frustrated with how long WSUS seems to take to get up-to-speed.  Sometimes, it just takes alot longer than we expect it to, even though it's working.

That looks like a typical output for a client that isn't connecting to the server.  Anything relevant in the Event Viewer logs on the WSUS server?  Try restarting the service and see what comes up in the logs.

Have there been any security policy changes or IIS changes lately that you're aware of?
DonNetwork AdministratorCommented:
Run the command <<<<from cprompt

cscript C:\Program Files\Update Services\setup\installselfupdateonport80.vbs

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc720439(WS.10).aspx
DonNetwork AdministratorCommented:
Also, is your WSUS server using port 8530 ??
if so you need to add this to the end of your gpo in specify intranet

WellingtonISAuthor Commented:
OK...No security changes however the server name has changed when I reinstalled after the crash...
Next I ran that commmand it was sucessful
the GPO is correct. The proxy is 8080 but the server is 80
WellingtonISAuthor Commented:
Just and FYI but I don't think it matters, I'm also running Symantec Backupexec on this pc too.
DonNetwork AdministratorCommented:
"however the server name has changed when I reinstalled"

Did you make the servername change in the specify intranet gpo ?
WellingtonISAuthor Commented:
Yes I did.  It's so strange. I only have 3 computers reporting and over 1000 have not reported yet.
WellingtonISAuthor Commented:
I'm going to try to reinstall WSUS
DonNetwork AdministratorCommented:
With that specific error (80244019) it's not a bad idea to reinstall

WellingtonISAuthor Commented:
Thanks.  I'll let you know.
DonNetwork AdministratorCommented:
If you have trouble with the uninstall follow the following:

http://blogs.technet.com/sus/archive/2008/11/05/how-to-manually-remove-all-of-wsus.aspx

in addition to the blog

On 32-bit platforms: msiexec /x {CEB5780F-1A70-44A9-850F-DE6C4F6AA8FB} callerid=ocsetup.exe

On 64-bit platforms: msiexec /x {BDD79957-5801-4A2D-B09E-852E7FA64D01} callerid=ocsetup.exe

WellingtonISAuthor Commented:
I just did an rsop.msc from my own computer.  I looked at the GPO and it has the correct server name.  But it's showing up in WSUS as not yet reported as are many of my PCs in this domain.
WellingtonISAuthor Commented:
NO I'm not having any problems unstalling, in fact I've just completed my reinstall. Let's see what happens now.
DonNetwork AdministratorCommented:
That was for just in case : )

Lets get a clean windowsupdate.log on a client not reporting. Run the .bat below on it and give it a few minutes populate.

%Windir%\system32\net.exe stop bits
%Windir%\system32\net.exe stop wuauserv
%Windir%\system32\net.exe stop cryptsvc

del %WINDIR%\WindowsUpdate.log /S /Q

reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate /v AccountDomainSid /f
reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate /v PingID /f
reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate /v SusClientId /f
reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update" /v LastWaitTimeout /f
reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update" /v DetectionStartTime /f
reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update" /v NextDetectionTime /f

rd /s /q %windir%\softwareDistribution
%Windir%\system32\net.exe start cryptsvc
%Windir%\system32\net.exe start bits
%Windir%\system32\net.exe start wuauserv

sc sdset wuauserv D:(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;AU)(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;PU)

OK I'll try my own machine. Thanks.
WellingtonISAuthor Commented:
That worked!  However does that mean I should run this on the pc's that "refuse" to report?
DonNetwork AdministratorCommented:
I would, you can use psexec to do it

psexec \\* -c -f -s -d \\server\share\wsus.bat

-c is copy the .bat to remote
-f is force
-s is run under system context
-d is dont wait till finish before moving on to next
DonNetwork AdministratorCommented:
oh and "\\*" is the wild card for whole domain
WellingtonISAuthor Commented:
OK let me try and get back to you Thanks man you ROCK!
WellingtonISAuthor Commented:
OK I found the tool but where do I install it?
WellingtonISAuthor Commented:
I finally figured it out.  It's running now.
WellingtonISAuthor Commented:
Thanks so much.  I'm running the script with PSExec and it's working.  The machines are reporting.

Thanks!
