Problem installing SQL Management Studio Express 2008

The problem I have when installing Management Studio is that, as you can see, the installer is forcing me to select features. But they are disabled, and checked.

When I click a feature, it gets highlighted, but still not get past this error.

Can anyone please explain how to get past this?

Thanks,
newbieweb

Here was the prior dialog, where the problem might have originated?

Seems like you have Management tools SSMSE and SQL Client connectivity SDK installed in your machine earlier itself and hence it was grayed out..( In your first screenshot)

Also you have selected SQLEngine and everything selected in Features ( in your second screen) and hope you have installed those things earlier and hence it was throwing errors.
To confirm this, expand Instance in the Feature Selection tab and choose it accordingly.

I had similar problem.
Prior partial Installations are not completely erased when we uninstall programs from Control Panel
And this creates such errors ...
Can you confirm if u did any futile/successful installations earlier ?
Raja Jegan RSQL Server DBA & Architect, EE Solution GuideCommented:
Yes, as mentioned by misermice incomplete installations can also cause this.
Kindly uninstall any partial installations using Windows Installer cleanup utility from here:
