How can I reduce remove Skype from the task bar on Windows 7?

A few days ago I allowed Skype to upgrade and since then I constantly have Skype on my Task Bar.The only way to get rid of it is to close it. Is there any way to just get it to sit in the background, like it used to be? Or is there a way of uninstalling the upgrade? I am using Windows 7 Home Premium.

With Skype closed, right-click on the shortcut on your desktop or in the start menu, click on 'properties' and go to the Compatibility tab. Under “Compatibility Mode’ section, check and tick the checkbox for 'Run this program in compatibility mode' In the below drop-down box, select Windows Vista (Service Pack 2).

Start Skype and it should minimise to the system tray

Now why couldn't I figure that out without help? Thank you very much, I really appreciate it. ...Rob
Just wanted to say that I've learned from this and wondered why or what the issue was between Windows 7 and Skype that would cause this.
