DCPROMO of a Server 2008R2 into a 2003 SBS domain keeps asking for adprep/forestprep

Hi Guys,

I've got an SBS2003 DCenviroment into which i've joined a new Server 2008 R2 server. I want to make this a domain controller and have ran adprep/forestprep and /domainprep and dcoprep on the 2003 SBS box with the 2008 CD and this completed successfully (plus if i try to run it again it just shows that it's already been done. When i run DCPROMO on the Server 2008 R2 box it says that the forestprep and/ or domainprep still needs to be run.
Any ideas ?

First thing is if it is 2008R2 then the commands you need to run in the SBS server are adprep32 as adprep from the 2008R2 DVD will not run.

I've downloaded the 32bit trial version onto the SBS box and adprep ran fine. Do i need to run the adprep32 anyway ?

There is no 32bit version if Windows 2008 R2 so you must run adprep32.

You need to run:

X:\support\adprep\adprep32  /domainprep
X:\support\adprep\adprep32  /domainprep /gpprep
X:\support\adprep\adprep32  /rodcprep

Where X is the drive the adprep32 is on

So i need to put in the server 2008 R2 64 bit DVD into the 32 bit SBS server and run the above on it ?

That's worked a treat. Had to run DCOPREP after but then it worked fine.

Many Thanks
