I am running Solaris 10 in my vmware in a x86 machine. I need to reset root's password.
How do I do it ? I have tried to go to single user mode by typing "single" .... though it lands me to # prompt, i cannot change password of root...
how do i do it ?

That is what I have mentioned clearly . It is not letting me change the password even at the # prompt (single user mode)
You asked how to do it. The response answered that question.
If that is not working then something not working as designed and more information needs to be provided. Can you provide additional information about what is happening?
Are you getting an error?
Is it going through the process, but the new password is not working?
Please expand on what you are you doing and seeing.
