incoming connections on windows 7

Is it true that Windows 7 can only accept one connection at a time over vpn?? Is the only way to get around this to upgrade to server?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If I correctly understood your question, I can assure that you can connect to more than one VPN at a time. You just have to set it right - you should use your default gateway instead of VPN's gateway.

I am not sure about the Windows 7 limit. If the limit is 1 and you need more, another alternative is an inexpensive VPN router (Cisco/Linksy RV042 or like) that does allow multiple connections for sure. This has its own set of complexities but probably less than implementing a server. ... Thinkpads_User

What exactly are you trying to achieve? If this is a home network, you can really use a Linksys Router WRT54GL with DD-WRT firmware which can support either a PPTP server or OPEN VPN. Both are relatively easy to configure.

I think Windows 7 only allows one connection (Vista allows just one). Look at this article (same forum):

http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/57032-multiple-vpn-connections-same-computer.html

that talks about using Shrewsoft to get more than one connection. That may be more helpful. But I think out of the box (as you are using it). the limit is one connection. ... Thinkpads_User
