How to create a online store using a Visual Studio C# Web Site?

Hi,

I have never created a shopping site before nor have I created a Web Site using Visual Studio 2008 (C#), but that's my next challenge :)

Basic stuff: register customers, login customers, browse store (list with items and pictures of items), shopping cart functionality, invoice creation,...

Use of access db is needed (I know...)

All suggestions on how to set this structure up, what sites to browse to gather more information, anything at all will be helpful seeing how this is something completely new for me.

It's my first attempt at creating a basic e-store site and I really want it to be good so all help is welcome ;)

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi MrFawlty,

If you are going to use a database for your store that will have multiple users I would look at a better database than Access as it is designed more as a desktop database and not a server side multi user database. It could do the job for you but as a professional Industrial strength database like MS-SQL with the required security for an online store, Access will not cut it...

Good luck, you have many hours of research, which is worth every minute.

Thanks, I'm doing just that ;)

I've tried installing duwamish but I get the error "You must install the Microsoft .NET Framework SDK v1.0.3705 before running Duwamish 7.0 (C#)." and when I try installing the SDK I get a vague error message.

Is there a similar sample store with documentation out there you could recommend?

Nope still the same error, I'm running Windows 7 and "Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000; Windows Server 2003; Windows XP" though, any other suggestions?

Take a look at

  • nopCommerce  Opensource - written in C# and source code is available.
  • A commercial option we like & recommend is AspDotNetStoreFront. You can buy the source code in C#
