Backup downloaded NTDS.dit file to C:\Temp\backup folder. Can I copy and paste to c:\Windows\NTDS folder

I need to restore AD.  I am in DSRM.  I have the backup file (NTDS.dit)

Can I copy and past the NTDS.dit file from the backup folder to the NTDS folder? Will this restore AD?

I removed the "OS2 Setup" Zone and instead added the "Active Directory" Zone.

No, not exactly. If you want to restore the entire Active Directory database, you must perform an authoritative restore.
