Problems connecting to Internet with Cisco 877 router

I have purchased a new Cisco 877 router to replace my old router on my existing connection. I have used Cisco CP Express to perform a basic configuration and Cisco Configuration Professional for further configuration.

The problem is that I cannot get a web page. My ISP confirms that my router is connected by I can't get a webpage. I tried pinging a public server by IP address in case it was a simple DNS issue but didn't get a reply to that.

Does anybody have any idea what I have missed? I am new to Cisco routers. I am attaching a configuration file in case that sheds any light on the problem.

Many thanks

David

If the modem is seperate from the router, cycling the power of the modem should do the trick.

Hi ikalmar

The Cisco router does not appear to offer me the option of MSCHAP2 authentication and I have successfully connected with PAP/CHAP with my old router.
Thanks for your response edbedb. The modem is not seperate to the router but I have power cycled the router all the same and still no connection.
ok

please show us:

show ip int brief
sh int dial 0

deb ppp authen, deb ppp neg, and show log....
sorry 'sh interface ATM0.3 point-to-point' need
hi,

here is an example, the supporting mschap on dialer interface:

ppp authentication ?
chap        Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP)
  eap         Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP)
ms-chap     Microsoft Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (MS-CHAP)
  ms-chap-v2  Microsoft CHAP Version 2 (MS-CHAP-V2)
  pap         Password Authentication Protocol (PAP)
Hi,

you forget to add dialer interface to out security zone:

int dial 2
zone-member security out-zone

Thanks ikalmar

I tried to type the command you recommended "int dial 2" but it responded "invalid input detected"
Hi Greg

Thanks for your response. Will your suggestion solve my connection problem? I have no idea what that means?
if you dont know then i suggest you remove it
conf t
int vlan1
no ip tcp adjust-mss 1452
The commands are used if you are using pppoe and you look to have pppoa

I resolved the problem by installing the latest version of Cisco's Configuration Professional software and running through the exact same setup process again. I have no idea whether any of the accepted solutions worked as I didn't understand what any of them meant and I was prepared to make the changes without first understanding the consequences of the changes.
