Print spooler service getting disabled on DC

Hi Experts,

One of our DC is also configured as a Print server. And every time the print spooler service get disabled automatically. This DC is the only server in a branch office.I believe this is happening when every time when the server refreshes the GPO. Can we do something to prevent the GPO on that DC from disabling the spooler service?

Run an RSoP report from GPMC against that DC and identify what GPO is setting that service to disabled (if that is the case)

You can either filter the policy so that machine/DC doesn't get it or you can set a new policy that will take precedence and enable the service (what I'd do).  That policy can also be set using security filtering to only apply to that box.

Hi Mike,

I ran RSOP and found the culprit GPO. The spooler service is Disabled for all the domain controllers and applied through separate GPO. Is there any way we can Disable that one single setting for that particular DC? If we exclude this DC from the Security settings of GPO, it'll revoke the other GPO settings as well.

Unfortunately no, you can't security filter just for a certain setting.  What you could do is create a new GPO that enables the spooler service and have it only apply to that DC.

Thanks

Below is the plan I've taken:

Create new GPO with Spooler service setting “Enabled” and link it to the OU “Domain Controllers”; make the link order 1 and then apply only for LIN01ADC01 (by deleting anonymous users group).

Will this change revoke/undo the other policy settings configured in other GPO listed with less priority? I don't want the other policies to be removed for the DC> Please advice.

Kind Regards,
Anupam
