Remote shutter with canon SD780

I'm trying to get a new Canon SD780 IS digital camera to take pictures by "remote shutter," as in running from Kantech Entrepass software. We need this to work for our ID card badge system. Essentially, the software has a way to take the picture by alt-clicking on a certain screen, and choosing "video capture." Our old Canon worked fine in going through the motions of taking pictures, but failed in taking the actual shots due to a defect of its own (this is why we replaced it with the new SD780). Any help would be appreciated.

VillaVerdeAgua,

This is called shooting in Tethered mode, when the camera is attached via a cable to a computer, and the software fires the camera and captures the image. Unfortunately, not all cameras support tethered mode, and the SD780 is one of those that do not. Here is a partial list of some Canon models that DO support tethered mode, perhaps you can find one to replace the SD780.
