microsoft script editor

Hi,
I was using "microsoft script editor" to debug my JavaScript.
Something happened an now it dows not work, when an error occures I get the message if I want to open the Script-Debugger, I click Yes and the browser hangs (I see a small rectangle on the top left).
So I want to reinstall the "Microsoft Script Editor", but I see that it can be installed only from Office XP and I have Office 2007. Where can I find it as a standalone program?

MSE7.exe had some issue with VISTA and IE7. Make sure you have the relevant updates

Have a look here for the alternatives : http://www.jarrodgoddard.com/web-development/internet-explorer-7-javascript-debugging

The Microsoft Script Editor is provided in the Microsoft® Office XP applications. I think there is no stand alone component and so  you can do a custom installation.

So what can I do?
How do I get it?
Currently I have no way to debug my application.

I think you can go with Microsoft® Office XP Custom installation so that only MSE is installed

I don't have the Microsoft® Office XP.
I read that what I need is the MSE7.EXE that is located in:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\MSE7.EXE
Maybe you have it?

I was just googling for your query and found this

http://www.open-a-socket.com/index.php/2008/04/30/stuck-without-a-script-editor-try-mse7exe/

For me its C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\OFFICE12\MSE7.exe

NB: When I tried to search, it did NOT come up .. so I manually went to the path and found.

Hope this helps !!!

Hi masterpass,
I don't see any link there to download the MSE7.exe
I searched the WEB (for many hours) and found many places that say as if they have a link to download it, but they did not.
I will appreciate it very much if you can send it to me (I am desperate).
My email is: shlomo@vapisoft.com

VapiSoft,

It is not a link to download the MSE7.exe. What I am trying to tell is that MSE7 is INSTALLED in the OFFICE 2007 also. Please read the article carefully rather than looking for links.

I verified with my system which is also running on OFFICE 2007. The path is

C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\OFFICE12\MSE7.exe

In your system, just go to the above FilePath and you can see the MSE7.exe

Hi masterpass,
Of course I looked for it in my OFFICE12 folder (under Microsoft Office 2007) but I did not find it there.

I cannot send you the MSE7.exe as it is just a EXE file and all dependents need to be installed. I would suggest to install the Office 2007 once more time and see .. When you install give the FULL install

Vista/Win7/XP ?

Please understand ... exe files without the dependents won't work !!!!!

I belive you but I am desperate.
Please note that it worked on my computer so I think that I have all the depndencies.
Something hapens and now it just hangs.
When I have a bug in the JavaScript, it pops the message if I want to ender the debugger.
After I click on Yes it just hangs.
Please send it and let me try.

Hi masterpass,

Now I found something very important.
I found my origional MSE7.EXE in another folder (and I can double-click on it, no problem).
I found it in the registry with a parameter:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12\MSE7.EXE /JITDebug

So now the quesion is why it hangs when it is called from the IE ???

Good news.
Finally I manage to make it work again.
The secret was to place the command "debugger;" in the code.
It stopped and asked me what if I want to make the Script Editor" my debugger.
Thanks for all the Help;

Now that it worked, I realized that this is not the debugger that I used.
It is not very good.
So I am back to trying to understand what was this debugger and how did I install it.
