I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The TZ170 is an older model! We are using the TZ 190 (also older model) and  it is very good, we also have the comprehensive security suite, wich includes alsmost everything. Get your hands on a bundle, a device with the suite, it saves you a lot of money!

Take a look at http://www.sonicwall.com/benelux/295.html for a comparison of the current models.

Managing Security Policy in a Changing Environment

The enterprise network environment is evolving rapidly as companies extend their physical data centers to embrace cloud computing and software-defined networking. This new reality means that the challenge of managing the security policy is much more dynamic and complex.

The TZ170 is definitely a good device. I would not use the gateway services as you throughput would be reduced as data is scanned.

I would instead protect devices with installed AV or malware software on the local machines.

it has 2 engines, one for anti spam and antivirus, it will freeze the network you mean?

If my memory serves me correct, the TZ170 has a 25Mbps throughput but when you enable the gateway services, it drops to 5~10Mbps.  Because of this I prefer to ue the resources on each of my local machines to scan for threats and protection.

thanks MR nappy, and If I want to make Vlan in my network it supports it ?

The TZ 170 supports VLAN!

By the way, it is thrue, the troughput drops when you enable security services, but to a level far faster then the average DSL. Hence 'the bottleneck' is your external connection and not the TZ 170. The advantage is that using the security services is easier than to deploy antivirus etc on each deviced or managed from a server.

yea for this reason I buy it, because i study my network if I want to purchase antivirus system and antispam it will cost much , and we are cutting the costs ,so the common answer that it is a good firewall and worth to depend on it,any other suggestions?

Dear Buddy,

The main advantage of TZ170 is that it has IPS too so dont worry much about security threats U just do some port scanning and other tests to check what are open in your firewall.
As i have used sonicwall is good. It has free netflow analyzer also i just forgot its name. Try to utilize all features of sonic wall . Its supports IPsec VPN's too. And a simple GUI.
Regards,
Praveen

I fully agree! The name of the analyzer is Sonicwall Viewpoint, it is included.

Also as an inexpensive addition you may want to look at opendns.com an thier web filtering capabilities. This could possibly offload some of the work of your router by preventing people from going places they shouldn't be.

how to test the ports from outside to my sonic wall if it is opened or blocked
0
tbrent77Commented:
Goto GRC.com and use the 'Shields Up' and "Leaktest" analyzers.

basbasbasCommented:
Try an online portscanner, you could Google for that and find plenty of them.
