VmWare ESX - Installing W2k8R2 (64bit) getting error Host CPU is incompatible

Hi,

We are running ESX 3.5 and this the first deployment of a 64bit OS (W2k8R2). When power on the machine with the ISO to beging the installation we are getting error message shown above.

The ESX HOST is running on a Dell PowerEdge 2950 with 8 CPUs - Processor type is Intel Xeon E5450 @ 3.00 GHz.

Your ESX host's CPU (check your BIOS) needs to have Intel-VT or AMD-V enabled and 64-bit compatible to run 64-bit guests, thus the reason for your error. Search your server model's user guide on how to specifically enable Virtualization technology in your BIOS.

Hope that helps.

I agree with coolsport the Intel VT is not turned on.  In the 2950 go into the BIOS and enable Intel VT and the NX bit (No eXecute).  This will resolve the issue
