Will a Sup 720 in a Catalyst 6513 support CATOS?

Can I load the current version of CATOS and the config from a Sup2 directly to a Sup720?

The image is hardware specific so no, hardware capabilities are different as well, the config may work but if ports/interfaces do not line up then it will not install all of it.

thanks harbor235,

We currently have Sup2 modules in slot 1 and 2 and we will install Sup720 modules in slots 7 and 8.

Slots 7 and 8 are currently unused so that should not be a problem.

So we need a CATOS image specifically for a Sup720?

Do you think the config will still work with different Sup modules in different slots?

For example, you may a SUP II with GigE ports, the config will have their configuration information. If you move the SUPs to 7 and 8 using the SUP720 then the config is no longer valid, if you move those connections else where then you still have a similiar problem. I would work on converting the config and testing it out before deployment if you have that capability, otherwise I would cut and paste the proper configuration changes into the new hardware locatioons.

While you CAN load CatOS on a Sup720, why would you want to?

CatOS has hit the end of the road. There will be no further upgrades to CatOS beyond version 8. And there are features in native mode that are not available to hybrid mode platforms.

Eventually, you'll have to move to Native mode IOS anyway and this is as good a time as any.

thanks donjohnston,

We came up with a replacement Sup2 so we did not have to use the Sup720.

donjohnston is correct that CATOS is end of life but so are these switches.

We plan on replacing them soon so I was just asking about CATOS to see what are options were.
