Exchange 2010 support large mailboxes

I noticed the Exchange 2007 hosted providers on supply with only 2-3GB per mailbox. However the ones with 2010 provide 25GB per mailbox including Microsoft online.  Some saying can go as large as 50GB.

What makes Exchange 2010 support such a large mailboxes?  Have they solved the indexing and fragmentation issue compeletely?

Thank you.
