Generic HP drivers for Win 7 machines?

I just mapped an HP Color Laserjet 4700bn printer w/ the HP Color Laserjet 9500 drivers.  It worked, but I think I was just plain lucky.  Are there "generic" HP drivers for Window 7 machines?

HP Printers use PCL as a printing language.  Some may use PCL6 others PCL5e.  There may be other versions I'm not remembering off hand (and I'm ignoring versions that are earlier since the above two have been around for years at this point).  If your printer "speaks" either of those languages, then you should be able to use ANY printer driver that also speaks those languages.  HOWEVER, if you don't have a specific one for your model printer, certain features may not be available.  For example, you may not be able to use duplexing, if your printer supports it and your driver doesn't.

I do not know of any "universal" HP Printer Driver.

the "hp universal print driver" does exist, but it phenomenally sucks.

hp will try to push this on you if you select a model and OS that hp itself doesnt support.

win7 will be quite happy using vista drivers, as long as you match 32bit or 64bit

i have an hp document i came across as a pdf somewhere which kind of helps, i'll go dust it off one sec

ok this document says xenapps and citrix and terminal server... but... it shows you the mapping between old models (with drivers) and newer models (which might not have drivers for 7)

Win7 will load genetic pcl drivers for a slure of HP printers by default, and if AIO the workaround is to use the various apps to do the dirty work.
Very hit or miss.
I used the Universal HP x86 and x64 drivers and had a bitch of a time after installation.  People's print jobs wouldn't print because the printer wanted a manual feed.  it was ridiculous.
But, after 2 days of working through all that for 30 HP laserjets, we're good now and we've stuck with the HP UPD
Here is an updated version of bryon's citrix doc as well as the UPD 5.0 admin guide, if it'll let me upload it
