Cisco Router 2651 AUX Port

Hi,

i am currious what the AUX port on my 2651 router is used for. is it used as an optional interface?. if not does nayone know a WIC to buy to give me more FA ports for connecting to different LANs?

It's primary purpose is to attach a modem to for use as a management port for remote management should the network interfaces become unusable.

I dont have or need a modem for this use is there a way i can use it for management from vlan 1 management vlan?

If you need to manage your router over the network, use the vty lines (telnet or ssh).

great thanks, so i assume the AUX port is useless to me. Do you know of a module for this that will add more LAN ports at 100mbs?

I can't say that it's "useless" since I don't know if you'll need to do any out of band (OOB) management of this device.

As for adding LAN ports, there are a number of modules available for your platform that add ethernet ports but none that have fastethernet.
