SQL Server Cluster Failures

Hi Experts,

We are on SQL Server 2005 Std 64 bit and Win 2003 Server with 4 instanced Active/ Active cluster  instances on two nodes.

Have been getting  Cluster errors and SQL Server resources of all instances are failing very frequently. SQL Server is not Failed Over. It is also not resatred during most of the times.

Below are the errors from the event log:

[sqsrvres] printODBCError: sqlstate = 08S01; native error = 0; message = [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Communication link failure

[sqsrvres] CheckQueryProcessorAlive: sqlexecdirect failed

[sqsrvres] printODBCError: sqlstate = 08S01; native error = 2746; message = [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]TCP Provider: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

[sqsrvres] printODBCError: sqlstate = 08S01; native error = 0; message = [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Communication link failure

[sqsrvres] OnlineThread: QP is not online.

Can you please take a look and tell me what could be the issue.

Thanks,
LVL 8

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Some more informations should be useful:

What kind of hardware do you use (vendor, family, generation ecc, p.e. HP DL380 G5)
Can you check the application and system event viewer for concurrent errors?
What speed the public NICs are set to (autosense, 100Mb ecc)

For the issue of not failing over or not restarting you must provide the properties of the SQL Server resource in cluster (the advanced tab) and the properties of the SQL Server cluster Group
