I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

What user account are you using to run the DTA and what permissions does it have in the database engine?
Make sure that the login has all of the needed rights:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms190987.aspx
If this is the first run of the DTA, you have to use a sysadmin user to launch it.  After the first run, a login can tune the PDS of any database it has db_owner rights to.
