How do i identify who opened a document in my document library

Dear Experts,

I have a document library for excel files and I would like to be able to know who opened a file (when you open it to "Read Only" and don't edit it. In the views columns there is only "Opened by" and "Modified by" I need one to be "Opened by" or is there a workaround to know who opened certain file...

Thank you for your help

check the IIS logfiles and search for the link, normally those are located under C:\windows\system32\logfiles\W3SVCxxx where xxx is teh ID of the Website as shown in IIS Management console

you can also create an Event Handler.  Add a requirement to check out a doc, and then capture the ItemCheckingOut event
