HTML SELECT with columns

Hi,
I want to add columns to my <SELECT tag columns.
I saw that someone recommended to do it with spaces, I don't want it.
If you cannot do it with <SELECT than tell me how to do it, but I need that it will have a vertical scroller (like SELECT) if there are many items in the list.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

  <optgroup label="Swedish Cars">
    <option value="volvo">Volvo</option>
    <option value="saab">Saab</option>
  </optgroup>
  <optgroup label="German Cars">
    <option value="mercedes">Mercedes</option>
    <option value="audi">Audi</option>
  </optgroup>
</select>

The first two are using spaces, and as I explained in my quesion I rather not use it (because i need to calculate it for every new text). The third example is very complicated ant it needs C# (I want something in HTML tags).

I don't see there something that I can use.
Maybe I need to refrase my question.
I am looking for simple list with columns, it does not have to be a combox.

Do you want your table to have a scroll bar to it??

Something like this:

OK. This is close.
I need two more thing in it (that are in SELECT).
1. A frame around it. I tried to add border=1 but it did not work.
2. When I select a line it is selected and I get an event I can get (in JavaScript) the selected line#.

Regarding the styles of SELECT, find the below sample script.

Note: IE does not support most of the styles for SELECT.

reg. point#2, i dont understand your question/requirement.?
