IntelliJ cache size - how to change it

I found a file attrib.dat.storageData (mine is 1.6gb in size) in:
C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\.IntelliJIdea8x\system\caches

Anyone know of a setting to reduce cache size in IntelliJ or a reason why it shouldn’t be reduced?

The cache size is not a configurable parameter. The cache is potentially unlimited. It store project info, debug info and stuff like that. Usually, your startups would get slower as your cache size increases.

The best bet is to regularly delete the cache (either via a script or manually), and then defrag the system.

"or a reason why it shouldn’t be reduced?"

This cache is not the usual kind of cache but a persisten cache which stores a lot of project info, subversion info etc.. to try and speed up the loads so that it does not have to parse the entire project structure every time (but as the cache grows, it becomes an overhead)

personally, I quit intellij quite sometime back (it was too overloaded with features and shortcuts) and moved on to Eclipse.
