Unable to see contents of Sharepoint Web folder

I recently upgraded to WINXPSP3, Office 2007 and IE8.
Since then I cannot see the folders located in Sharepoint Web folder via My Network Places.
Sharepoint version is 2000.
Do I need to install some backward compatibility softwares?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

go to Start, Computer, select Map Network Drive and then click on the link that says: “Connect to a Web site that you can use to store your documents and pictures.” You are then taken to a wizard that walks you through a series of steps to connect to the WebDAV folder

I went through that process and was able to map a drive - not the problem.
The problem is that the contents of the folders are now empty even though there are items in them!

After further testing we have found that it is down to Office 2007:
After installing Office 2007, the web folders for SharePoint 2001 no longer work.

Do anyone have a fix?

Can you verify that the user see the files via the GUI?

Regarding your Office theory, make sure you don't have any Office 2003 app/remnants left. Then do a repair on Office 2007 - http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/microsoft-office/detect-and-repair-applications-in-microsoft-office-2007/

The users can see the files via the Internet Browser.
The cannot see anything via the Netwrok Places folder.
Office fully repaired and still no sign of the files within the folder.

Are the files properly checked in? Any required fields not populated? If the user drops a file via network places does it show up in the GUI?

How about from the GUI, selecting the Explorer View?

Yes - this worked fine with Office XP. It seems the issue is Office 2007 related.  We use Sharepoint 2001.

I can see the Root Sharepoint Folders but not the sub-folders that contain Categories: DashBoards; Documents; Management; Portal Content.
It is blank once you click pat the Root folder - nothing appears within explorer :(

Can you provide a screen shot of the Explorer View when opening it from the GUI (from the DocLib)?

Please see two files.
1: the Sharepoint Folders via Network Places
2: the Empty Sharepoint folders when you click into them
