Remote Disk management console failed to connect - Windows 2000 server

I can connect to the computer management console of a remote computer and view/access everything but the "Disk Management" node. I get the error

"The Disk Management console failed to connect to the remote computer because the Disk Management remoting service is not in the Windows Firewall exception list. Add the Disk Management remoting service (dmremote.exe) to the Window Firewall exception list and try again."

This being a Windows 2000 server, there is no firewall to alter. I can connect to the Disk Management service when logged in locally with my network account (domain admin) and the services are running (Logical Disk Manager - automatic; Logical Disk Manager Administrative Service - manual)

Hello, maybe you have a firewall in the client side?
Cheers.

Windows firewall is disabled by group policy on all PCs in this environment but I
checked my PC and confirmed that it is set to "Off" and the option to change
the setting is grayed out.

OK, in this case, we need to determinine if its a network issue or service related issue.
Do you can connecto remotely to other managments component like eventviewer or similar? and to others Servers?
Are you connecting to DNS NAME or IP? Your DNS client are resolving OK?
check the network connection status while you are trying to connect?
 > netstat -an | findstr %yourIPservername%
Review the connecion status ESTABLISHED = OK SYN_SEND = SOmething is WRONG
Do you have some Antivirus with Firewall OPtions on any side?
If all is OK, then you must review in the service side.
Cheers!

I'll try these suggestions out at the first opportunity.
The tickets are rolling in pretty steady so I haven't had time to get back to this.

I can see all other management components of that server and any other server.

I can connect by DNS Name or IP address
No SYN_SEND messages when running netstat -an

Firewall turned off on PC attempting to connect and no firewall on server (Windows 2000 with
no 3rd party firewall)

McAfee antivirus is active on both PC and server.

Cannot connect to any Windows 2000 server to remotely manage Disk Management.
I tried 5 other servers and got the same error.

This must be related to Windows 2000 server.

I think he went overboard; but, here is exactly your problem: http://forum.soft32.com/win3/Disk-Management-loading-XP2-ftopict48229.html
If that doesn't get it, is McAfee blocking things?
Hello, sorry for my late answer. Can you check the logging file from McAfee Access Protecction module with VirusScan Console? Maybe you can see something.
Regards
Access protection log shows no activity since 11/13/2009.
OnAccessScanLog shows a Conficker.worm!job deletion on 5/15/10 as the last entry
OnDemandScanLog shows the last scan was on 3/21/2010 with no detections

As you can see, McAfee was not working properly but has now been fixed.

Still cannot connect to disk management remotely.
Are the local machine and the remote machines both windows 2000 servers?
The two different Windows XP sp3 PCs are attempting to connect to a Windows 2000 server sp4
You'll need to ensure you have ports 135 and 445 are available to your client PC from the server.
RPC ping comes to mind to test the connectivity, but my first thoughts would be with McAfee.
Are you able to stop the McAfee programs and services to test?
Disabled McAfee "Access Protection" in the VirusScan Console
Stopped the following services:
McAfee Engine Service
McAfee Framework Service
McAfee McShield

Recieved the usual error (which is attached)
RemoteDiskMgmtError.doc

Netstat -an

reveals that no ports are listening...

C:\Documents and Settings\user>netstat -an

Active Connections

Can this be re-enabled without a restart?
