Apple Garage Band with Roland W-30 keyboard

Hi

I cannot get my Roland keyboard to interface with garage band.

I can see that a MIDI device is connected in Garage Band (GB)

When I select the Musical Typing I do not get any sound if input via W-30 but do get sound via mouse clicking on keyboard.

If I choose GB Preferences and then select Midi 1 device is reported.

If I use the Midi utility I can add a generic device.

I do not know any thing about MIDI devices so as much help as possible please!!!!!

Thanks

if i'm not wrong roland w-30 doesn't have a usb port, so you must use an interface (midi usb or sound card), connect midi out of the keyboard to the midi input of the interface.

Have you installed the right drivers?

Wich interface do you use? W-30 is a nice keyboard! :-)

ASKER

Hi

I have purchased a USD Midi cable from Maplin.

Please can you tell me where I can get the correct driver?

It's my wife's keyboard and I promised to get this working when I got my new Mac.

She loves this keyboard.

Cheers for your help

Hi

Thanks for your help so far. Some progress has been made but I still have issues.

I am using a New Link Midi Cable which is Mac compatible USB - MIDI

Can you confirm please how to check in Garageband?

If I use the Audio Midi setup and click on one of the arrows the keyboard displays MIDI Overflow. Sometimes I get a sample form the keyboard.

Not sure about the drivers. I typed the details in manually.

I appreciate your help so far.

Cheers

any news?
Hi

No luck I still get Midi overflow.

I am going to try and borrow a USB Keyboard and prove that works. I will also see if a shop can setup the keyboard.

Seems odd that this simply wont work.

I appreciate your help so far you have been very informative.

Cheers
Peter
i'm sorry peter, but you should look at your keyboard settings then... if you swap cables and still get midi overflow and your keyboard midi input is unplugged then something wrong with keyboard midi setup...
Hi

Thanks for your help so far a lot of progress has been made by following your suggestions. So thank you.

I have now been able to play notes from the keyboard but I get latency, I can play about 3 keys and then it will pause.

Tried all the settings in preferences but still have this issue.

Any suggestions please?

Once again thanks for your help.

Cheers
Peter

Hello, i did give instruction on how to setup, use and fix every error the asker had. He could actually play and ear the sounds but limitations on his hardware specification avoid him to play live, this is out of the primary question "I cannot get my Roland keyboard to interface with garage band.".
