Retreiving deleted photos from SD card, thumbnail cache?

I've got a user that deleted quite a few photos from a SD card and would like to have them back.  He did open most of those photos on the computer and also viewed them as thumbnails.  I've done some poking around reading about Thumbnail caches, but couldn't really figure out if that applied to an external card.  Is there some location on the computer where I might be able to get to those photos?  The user is using Windows XP.

Most major media card makers like San Disk provide free recovery software (separate media) with the media. I believe SanDisk uses Rescue Pro. A trial version is available online to download and try.

If the user has deleted files on the SD Card and has since copied data to the card, you will not be able to retrieve those pictures as the "deleted" data has been overwritten.

If the user has not copied anything to the SD Card since deleting the pictures, you can try using some file recovery software..  Most file recovery software costs money..  Here is a free solution that may or may not work (if the user has not copied over the deleted sectors on the SD card)

Here are 5 free applications from an external link:

Try Recuva, it works well: http://www.piriform.com/recuva

I need to make sure the user hasn't already put data back on that card.  If the user didn't I'll start trying that recovery software.  Have to head out of town until next week, but will jump on it Monday or Tuesday.  Thanks for the suggestions.

Good luck!
I would also advise using Recuva.
