date conversion SQL Server

I am trying to convert over a date stored as 2009-03-23 00:00:00.000 to 3/23/09 varchar no time. I've tried some conversions none seem to be working. Any Ideas? mahalo

did you try this?

select convert(varchar(10),getdate(),1)
Expert of the Quarter 2010
Expert of the Year 2010

select convert(varchar(8), dtcol, 1)
Expert of the Quarter 2010

If you need to have exactly 1 or 2 digit month instead of always 2 digit, then

select right(month(dtcol),2)+'/'+RIGHT(day(dtcol),2)+'/'+RIGHT(year(dtcol),2)

to get EXACTLY  m/d/yy
