As part of an SBS2003 to 2008 "upgrade" we need to install SP2 for Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express. How do I determine which service pack is currently installed in case I already have SP2?

Thanks for that. I am looking at this for 4 separate servers, none of which have an MSSQL2 folder. Two have an MSSQL.1 folder, and under there the SQLSERVR.EXE shows as version 9.00.1399 which I presume is not up to SP2?? The other two have no MSSQL.X folder at all. What is the difference between these folders?
Different installs/instances I think.  There are usually more than one folder.  You can go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server , then just search for SQLSERVR.EXE .  That's I found mine.  Much faster than browsing through every folder.

You can right-click on the file in the search results (Properties) and get the path and the version.

The .1399 is the SQL 2005 RTM version.

SQL 2005 uses a separate MSSQL.x file for each instance of SQL installed on a server.

The best way to determine version is to connect to the instance and then do:
SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('productversion'), SERVERPROPERTY ('productlevel'), SERVERPROPERTY ('edition')
