Outlook 2007 Forwarding Emails

Hi all

I have a client with Outlook 2007. When they receive an email with an image in it, if they forward/reply to that email - the image disapears and they just get a line of text.

The mail is set to HTML, and if they copy and paste that same image into a new email it appears OK.

Anyone any ideas as could not see anything obvious?

Hi,

Try the below steps. I think this will help to resolve your issue.

Tools menu, click Options. Click the Security tab.Under Download Pictures, click Change Automatic Download Settings.
Clear the Don't download pictures or other content automatically in HTML e-mail check box.

If the above step is not working then try this
There is a registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security. It contains a key called "OutlookSecureTempFolder ".
Delete the key!   This fixed my issue.

Thanks.

could you advise what the line of text says that replaces the image?

I go to Tools > Options but cannot see a security tab.
Deleted registry key in question but same issue present.

Some more info:
If I run in safe mode outlook can forward pictures fine.
I have opened as administrator > disabled all Add Ins and reopened outlook - same problem persists so clearly safe mode is disabling something else that is stopping this from working.
I have deleted the OST file in case that was somehow affecting this but made no difference.

From Microsoft's web site:

What User-Initiated Safe mode does
The following restrictions apply when you start a program in User-Initiated Safe mode. (Some items listed below do not apply to all Microsoft Office programs.)

a.. No templates (template: A file or files that contain the structure and tools for shaping such elements as the style and page layout of finished files. For example, Word templates can shape a single document, and FrontPage templates can shape an entire Web site.) can be saved.
b.. In Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer, the last used Web site is not opened.
c.. Toolbar or command bar customizations are not loaded, and customizations cannot be saved.
d.. The AutoCorrect list is not loaded, and changes are not saved.
e.. Recovered documents are not automatically opened.
f.. Smart tags (smart tags: Data recognized and labeled as a particular type. For example, a person's name or the name of a recent Microsoft Outlook e-mail message recipient is a type of data that can be recognized and labeled with a smart tag.) are not loaded, and new tags cannot be saved.
g.. All command-line options are ignored except /a and /n.
h.. Files cannot be saved to the Alternate Startup Directory.
i.. Preferences cannot be saved.
j.. Additional features and programs are not automatically loaded.
k.. Documents with restricted permission cannot be created or opened.

However - how do I go about determining which one of these is the offending item?

And I have even renamed the outcmd, dat file so outlook created a new one - also to no avail - but oddly outlook didn't recreate the file even though it all worked OK?!

Thanks smd333,

for some reason, instead of including the image in the message, it is trying to include a reference to the original message.

Does this happen for all messages or only when forwarding emails from specific recipients?
also, try pressing alt+F9 which should show/hide the fieldcosxed and let me know if this changes anything.

I'm looking into why this might be happening.

You arent using word as your email editor are you? If so could you please set it to the standard outlook editor and see if it affects it.

Thanks,

Hi Totallytonto

It happens with all users
Outlook 2007 only uses word as the email editor.
Last ditch - ran outlook diagnostics without joy.
Now will be removing office entirely and reinstalling from CD tomorrow.

Appreciate all your help so far but will have to close the post as no solutions appear to have resolved it.

Fair enough.

before you remove and reinstall, try a new outook profile as it is a lot less hassle and may fix it if it is a specific setting on the user's profile.
