troubleshooting creation of ODBC connection with SQL Native Client

I'm supporting an Access 2003 application that makes an ODBC connection to SQL 2005. I'm trying to migrate everyone from the "SQL Server" driver to the "SQL Native Client". All the machines are running Windows XP with the latest updates.

Some of the PC's have the SQL Native Client driver already installed, for some reason. On the ones that don't, I downloaded the client installation .msi from Microsoft, installed it, but I can't get the connection to work.

I notice that on my development system (which works) the SQL Native Client driver is version 2005.90.4035.00. On the client workstations that function properly they have version 2005.90.3042. After running the installation program, the workstations that don't function properly have version 2005.90.1399.0, so that may be the problem.

How can I get the latest version of SQL Native Client to install on the workstations?

Hi,
You need to uninstall the native client and install the new version.

ASKER

That's my question, I think -- how do I install the new version? Where can I get it?

The SQL 2005 link goes to version 9.00.1399.
Will the SQL 2008 link work with Access 2003 and SQL 2005? Seems like it would...
Hi,
Have you had any success updating your SQL Native Client? Or have you encountered any problems, can I assist you further?
We have a business issue that is going to prevent any experimenting on this until after 6/30. I will try this then.
