Hi castellansolutions,

There's stuff-all about this on the net so we're stuck with using our brains...oh dear...

Has their mail stopped working completely or is this just a particular message?
I dont suppose they've been trying to send an email with an attachment have they?

Check the outbox/sent box for any message that keep retrying with an attachment. Exchange is limited to around 10MB by default and this could be the limit being referenced.

Yeah i did google it and got about 10 answers that were all the same. None of them seem to apply to me.

This is happening with 1 mac mail client (as stated) this is not a problem for outlook users or anohter use using a mac mail program so its most likely mac specific.

I really wanted to know what that error meant, do you know exactly what that error means? this is not a message size limitation, this only happens when he is using imap. owa works exchange works there  not large messages in his outbox or inbox.

Apologies,

"There's stuff-all about this on the net so we're stuck with using our brains...oh dear..." was meant to say there is stuff all about this but it doest seem to help. thats why I said we're "stuck using our brains"....

HUGE Apologies if this came across incorrectly...

Anyway, my stupidity aside, this issue is all over the net but doesnt seem to have a solution. We're going to have to go through a bit of diagnosis to work out what might be happening.

Do the event logs tie up with when the users mail stopped working or have the event logs occurred for ages?
Are there any other events logged?
Does the user get any errors?

The event log is a known issue with Imap, generally caused by sending large mesages over the 10MB limit imposed by exchange. The 'literal' part is a programming term for a type of variable.

This doesnt appear to help us though.

At this stage, I'm thinking you may need to increase the loggin level in exchange for the IMAP protocol.

1.Browse to C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\ClientAccess\PopImap
2.Open Microsoft.Exchange.Imap4.exe.config with text editor (e.g. Notepad) and scroll to the bottom
3.Modify ProtocolLog from false to true.
4.Modify LogPath as necessary
5.Restart the MsExchangeImap4 service

This will create some logs files in the logpath you saw in the config file.
I dont know how big these will be at this time so we'll have to blag it.

Start this logging, try the client a few times and turn the loggin back off.
Then lets have a look at the log.
