Outlook Express 6 Can't reply to emails, but can send

Having a problem on one of my client computers. It's Windows XP SP2, with IE8 and Outlook Express 6. All Windows updates installed, except SP3. (Doing that as I type this)

All of a sudden OE won't reply to (or forward) any emails. I can compose a NEW message and send that just fine, it also receives fine. I have deleted and recreated a new identity with and without importing any emails. Neither of those things had any effect. The sent items folder is not full, it's empty. I have re-registered all of the OE required .dll's.

When you try to reply to a message, it goes to the outbox and does try to send, but I get the following error from OE:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'RE: Ron's email', Account: 'mail.servername.com', Server: 'mail.servername.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

When I go to the mail server, which I also manage, I can see the computer making the connection, the server waiting for the data to be passed, but the client computer never sends it and it times out. Here is what the MDaemon log looks like on the mail server:

Thu 2010-06-10 11:18:28: [9010:1] SMTP session terminated (Bytes in/out: 139/565)

Also note that the MDaemon server is receiveing email from other computers on the same network as the client computer. It just seems to be a problem with this one system.

I also tried it with the antivirus completely un-installed, and there was no change.
Any ideas?

HI, do you have only one Email account in the OE? Since if you have 2 email accounts, although you mark one of them as default (the one used when you create a mail) if you are responding mails sent to the other account, OE will try to use that account, and perhaps it has a problem (settings probably), and that´s why you can send new mails, but no respond to others
