Windows XP repair install freezes

We are scratching our head over a faulty DELL 4800.

This customer started a repair install thinking they could fix a password problem doing so. The problem was that at 34minutes it kept doing a BSOD. After a whole night of troubleshooting we figured it was caused by lovely McAffe so we managed to uninstall it during the WinXP repair install from command prompt using appwiz.cpl and the install appeared to finally progress further however it got into a reboot loop at 3 min remaining no BSOD just reboots.

So restarted the repair install and all looked good until it got to the “Regional and language options” screen at that point we can’t go past as there is not mouse and keyboard movement.

Cleared drivers manually and re-done the install but no luck. Tried different key and mice.

Clean install is not an option this time.

I had this exact problem happen to an installation of 2003 Server on a Dell server.  It was awful.  I tried to perform a repair.  It would load the OS and get to the exact stage and I'd have no keyboard and mouse.  I Dell involved and the result was to reload the OS and restore from backup.  I tried everything and spent all night trying before the backup restore was the last resort.  I had users arriving in just a couple of hours.  Sorry, I don't have better news.  Maybe someone else might.
Hey Comp:
Can you log in to safe mode?
Issue should be easily resolved from there?
If you are not sure how when your dell starts up press (F8) key repeatedly till you get boot up option choose safe mode with command prompt
Should be to correct driver issues from there no guar but could work :)

Get an image/clone of that dive first.

Then create Ubcd4win and boot machine to Ubcd4win
Use its Registry Restore wizard and pick a system restore point from few weeks ago, before customer ran repair.

Maybe viruses on machine. Can you slave it in another machine and run a scan?

Check to see if there is a C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT folder
You could be in luck if there is.

Sorry but no luck so far. Here is whats happens. I have a full image of the drive so I can play as I like.

I start a repair install and is going fine got key and mouse till BSOD at 34min, to get past 34min I uninstall Mcafee and get a bsod again, reboot, repair restarts but this time there is no mouse or keyboard however install is happening fine but no control so can't finish it.

All I need is mouse and or keyboard!

Also tried to copy over Sytem 32 and Sytem to a healthy Windows install, it picked up the repair status and install continues but again no control at all.

I was thinkingg to do an unatended install. Any tips?

Are you accessing appwiz by hitting "shift" key and F10 in repair?

Put McAfee removal tool on removable device.
Bring up taskmgr  from cmd console and browse to tool to launch.

If that dosn't work, run msconfig>uncheck all startup entries and disable "non microsoft" entries in services, followed by all services if the latter fails.
