I tried to install the application using IE's Windows Update.

But the installation was not complete.

What is the most reliable way to do that?

well, you can't install it from windows installer. you have to download (which is free) and install it.

SQL 2k5 express :  http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=220549b5-0b07-4448-8848-dcc397514b41&displaylang=en

SQL 2008 express R2: http://www.microsoft.com/express/database/

why do you want 2005? go for 2008.....

Thank you so much for your kind help.

By the way, while trying to install SQL Express, I got the following warnings.
It also said I need to use a different instance name because there is already an instance.

I meant XP Service pack.. you can check it by opening any folder then go to Help menu and click on About. You will see which version of XP is installed you can either write it here or put a print screen.

Did you try following the instructions?
Like Com+ Check failure and running the setup from command line SKUUPGRADE=1?

Author

Commented:
I tried to set up from RUN, using the following command:

"C:\Documents and Settings\admin\Desktop\SQLEXPR.EXE"

SKUUPGRADE=1

Still I got the same warning as below:
