vmware ESXI unable to connect host cd drive to vm

Hi all

We have a HP ML350G6 with VmWare ESXI4 on. When we try to install the os on a newly created VM, it's not possible to connect the host CD DRIVE of the server to my VM. We can install the OS using the VsPhere Client and than connecting the CD DRIVE of the pc to the VM. This is however a lot slower.
The CDDRIVE in the server is SATA connected.

Please advice

I had a similar issue after I upgraded to ESXi4 from 3.5 I simply had to select one of the other options in the drop down menu for the CD, I can't remember which it was off the top of my head so try them all.

As you can see, there is no cd drive found on the host (server).

Do you get more options when you "Edit" the guest? that is usually where I configure it.

Very odd, I wonder if its time to look at the hardware, reseat the drive, reboot the server to see if it gets picked up again? or maybe replace it.

Well, i'm prety shure there is nothing wrong with the cd drive because i was able to install ESXI

This appears to be a problem with the HP drive setup.  There are many users having the same issues.  Please refer to this conversation on the HP site.  Your fix may be the same.

I already read that post. There is however no option in my bios to set this up. I've also submitted a case with HP. Still waiting for them to answer.

I have just swapped the dvd drive with a one from a workstation and now it works. I'm however sure the drive in the server is working. I think it's probably not compatible with ESXI. I'll update this question when i have news from HP
Thx
Kindly keep us posted.

The reply from HP: Contact VmWare support ...

We don't have a support contract so the only thing we can do is post it on the forum.

These guys always have the tendency of passing the buck around.
