Server 2003 sbs setup hangs

On trying to solve a fax service issue I tried to uninstall the service under components and its hung there for a day(%25).  on trying to cancel it, I get the message that this cannot be canceled.

I'm a little nervous about ending process in the middle of the uninstall. is there another option?

have a look in services (start>run>services.msc) and locate the fax service. Look at the properties for the services and it should show what file is run as the fax service (think its something like fxsvc.exe)

have a look in task manager and see if this process is still running. if yes, end the process. This may allow the setup to continue if you're lucky as some setups get stuck if the services doesnt stop properly.

I did find the fax service(fxssvc.exe) and ended process on it.  It continues to reappear after a few minutes.  So I went to services and turn the fax service to manual and ended the process and it hasnt come back.  It still is stuck in the same setup spot.  I'm sure its SETUP.exe that I need to end, just not sure what will happen after doing so.

I did a remote reboot this weekend.  After doing so I could not log back in to see if it worked.  I had to physically come in and check it.  The server was up at the login screen but i had no network connections.(after loggin in).  I moved the patch cable to a different port and rebooted again. it seems to be working now.  I still have to look into the fax service and monitoring service problems.  I get continuos event ID 4104 errors.  For now we can close this since the hang has been resolved.
OK mate. i'd check the 'recovery' tab of the fax service now you've got it all running again. If the service is set to restart itself when stoped you may find the installer never gets chance to complete bvefoer the service restarts itself.
