One of out clients is running SBS 2008. When trying to start Exchange System Attendant, they receive this message: "Windows could not start the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service on local computer. Error 1075 the dependency service does not exist or has been maked for deletion". I check the  Exchange System Attendant dependency are netlogon, server, workstation, windows event log and RPC. All these services are running. Which service do we miss?

Dependencies are actually recorded in the registry. The GUI tries to map these registry entries to service names, but if that mapping fails then the services don't get listed in the GUI.

Look at the actual dependencies by looking at the registry here:

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeSA\DependOnService

And post back the list of services listed there; we can see if anything looks out of place.

EventLog
NtLmSsp
RPCSS
LanmanWorkstation
LanmanServer
Netlogon

I thougth removing NtLmSsp will fix it, but it doesn't.
