VTP pruning is a feature of Cisco VTP. It allows switches on a network to dynamically add or delete VLANs to a trunk for an efficient switching network. In some occasions, VTP can create unnecessary traffic. Unknown unicasts and broadcasts in a VLAN are flooded over the entire VLAN. VTP pruning feature helps to eliminate or prune this unnecessary traffic on VLAN.
