If I have 5 WAP with the same SSID and Password, will a laptop connect to the strongest automatically?

Hey All -

I have a 6 Linksys WAP54G Wireless Access Point.

I want to set the SSID on all 6 as the same and the same WPA password

My concept is that I can add the password to 1 SSID closest to me and roam the office and connect to the strongest without having to re-enter password.

Is this possible?

yes.
As long as SSID and authentication, ie methond and password is correct - that works like a charm.
The roaming is initiated by the client computer when it has too bad signal on the AP it's connected to - and will then try to connect to a new one.

Whenever I set up the same SSID on 2 Devices, the network went crazy. Constant dropped packets and dropped connection.

When I bridge the Devices, I lose the SSID in total

make sure you don't put them too close for testing. Make sure they're on different channels as well

When using this method you need to set the channel manually and avoid letting it select automatically as they will interfere with each other in the way you described.
