HP Laserjet 2840 Win7 64bit Network Drivers On Win2003 Server 32bit

Here is the scenario:

Windows 2003 R2 (32 bit) server (Domain Controller, etc.).
HP Laserjet 2840 network printer.

My new workstation is a Windows 7, 64 Bit Edition machine.  When I install the HP Universal Driver 64 bit edition, which is the one they recommend, it fails saying "Printer Driver was Not Installed.  Operation Could Not Be Completed."

My guess is that this is because the Server is 32 Bit Edition and I'm installing 64 bit drivers.

How can I fix this so that I can share the printer via this server for 64 bit machines?

Not an easy one. The server does have the faciltiy to include drivers for other OS including x64, but server 2003 didnt know about windows 7 so it is not in the list.

have a look in 'additional drivers' on the 'sharing' tab of the printer on the server.

Ok, great advice.  You put me on the right track.

Here’s what I did that worked, for everyone’s reference.  First I installed the printer as a 32 bit printer, using HP Universal Print Driver (32).  It had automatically added the 64bit drivers when I looked under “additional drivers”.

When I went back to the Win7 64 machine, it worked to automatically install the printer drivers from the server, as you would expect.
