cut and paste into dreamweaver

I must have turned off a setting on my mac in dreamweaver because now when I copy and paste from an email into the dreamweaver document any quotation or apostrophe that was in the email appears as goofy characters.  Any idea how to fix this setting on DW?  Right now I have to go back into copy and visually search for offenders. It's a big pain in the butt and a killer for the eyes.

You can try to Paste Special instead of just Paste. But this might not do what you want. Otherwise, there is no setting in dreamweaver to handle this.

The problem is probably in the email message, perhaps the format of the email message being sent to you is changed? Always best to copy into notepad first then to dreamweaver to get rid of nasty characters.

And always check your pasted text no matter what you do!

I normally do check it but sometimes it is hard to spot an offending character when you are staring at a computer for hours and hours every day.

I will have client send me updates in word doc and see if that cleans it up.

I concur, I've been nailed by fancy quotes so many times when pasting from word or a website. They come out as almost normal looking quotes but are not; you at least have the luck to have obviously the incorrect character showing up that look nothing close to real quotes!

Paste Special should do what you want.  The other thing to check is that your page is using UTF-8 encoding.

Modify | Page Properties | Title/Encoding

FYI, Word is generally the cause of the problems, not the cure.  You want a plain text version of the text to maximize compatibility.
